There's a lot of discussion about pre-workout supplements and their ingredients. There are also hundreds of pre-workout options on the market that contain ingredients ranging from creatine to FDA banned ingredients like 1,3-dimethylamylamine (DMAA).  At Heist, we firmly believe that what you put in your body is equally, if not more important, than how you work it. When it comes to reaching your fitness goals and becoming the best version of yourself, you have to be smart about what you consume.

Caffeine has long been used as one of the top mental enhancer and physical performance boosters on the market. It's used by professional athletes in almost every sport to the casual gym-goer. Clinical studies have shown the right amounts of caffeine can increase focus, provide increases in endurance, and even aid in burning fat more efficiently. That being said, more caffeine doesn't always equate to an increased benefit. As a matter of fact, high levels of caffeine can cause a long list of unwanted side effects.

The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that healthy adults consume no more than 400 mg of caffeine per day. This is a blanket statement, however, and doesn't mean that you should always consume up to 400 mg per day or that everyone will handle high amounts of caffeine the same. Many pre-workouts sold today contain between 300 to even 500(!) mg in a single serving. Because caffeine is a stimulant, consuming it in these extremely high amounts provide users with an instant jolt of energy but can often leave them feeling sick, jittery, crashing during/after their workout, and not being able to get quality sleep.

All flavors of Heist pre-workout contain 220 mg of caffeine, just enough to provide the workout benefits of increased energy but to avoid the negative side-effects associated with high-levels of caffeine. We also combine caffeine with the powerful effects of L-theanine. This ingredient helps smooth out the spike and crash that accompanies caffeine and provides added focus during your workout.

The Heist team is always here to help if you're searching for answers to questions like:

    • What supplement ingredients are safe? Which are dangerous?
    • What do certain ingredients do?
    • Why lots of pre-workouts hide their ingredients in a proprietary blend?
